Friday, January 27

11:15 a.m.
Storer Auditorium

Storied Musics features new chamber works with scenarios. A Story Within a Story is a reflective work about social justice, civil rights and change - at home, in our country and abroad. The Jan. 27 performance will be the 2nd perf. of this Society commissioned work, music by Gregory Wanamaker and visuals by renowned artist Carrie Mae Weems. Ernst Bacon’s Come Up from the Fields, Father sets a Whitman text, a last letter from a soldier to his family during the Civil War. Kevin Puts’ And Legions Will Rise is about the power in all of us to transcend during times of tragedy and personal crisis, the forces inside us ready to do battle when we are at our lowest moments, as in blockbuster films.

The outstanding regional performers, all Society for New Music core members, include Linda Greene, John Friedrichs, Ann McIntyre, David LeDoux, Sar Strong, Rob Bridge, Neva Pilgrim, and Cynthia Johnston Turner, conductor.
