Margaret M. O’Connell was appointed Interim President of Onondaga Community College by the Board of Trustees, effective July 1, 2012. Prior to this role, she served on the College’s Board of Trustees as Board Chair from 2010 to 2012 and as a Trustee from 2006 to 2010.  Her experience on the Board included responsibilities as the Finance Committee Chair, Board Development Chair, OCC Association Board Member, Capital Campaign Leadership Steering Committee Member, Shared Governance Task Force and Ad Hoc Faculty-Trustee Committee on Shared Governance.  

She has more than 15 years of executive-level administrative experience as the Executive Director of the Allyn Foundation, a highly respected nonprofit organization with assets of $28 million. She also worked as a Marketing and Development Associate with Planned Parenthood of Syracuse.  As a Development Consultant she planned, implemented and coordinated capital campaigns of $9 million for the Skaneateles Recreational Charitable Trust, $1.4 million for the Redhouse and $100,000 for Skaneateles Central Schools.  She also served as an Educator and Outreach Worker for Shelter for Help in Emergency and a Teacher at the American School in Switzerland.      

Ms. O’Connell earned a B.A. degree, cum laude, from Dartmouth College and was one of 10 students chosen for a Senior Fellowship to work on an independent research project for publication.

Ms. O'Connell has also been active with a number of other local boards and organizations including the Wells College Board of Trustees, Say Yes to Education Leadership Committee, Le Moyne College School of Nursing Advisory Council, the CNY Community Foundation Strategic Partnership Fund, Skaneateles Central School Endowment Foundation, Cayuga County Community College Foundation, Skaneateles Library, Wednesday Morning Roundtable, WCNY, Planned Parenthood of Syracuse and the St. James Church Foundation.
