Award Winning Design

David Wallace

Sophomore Dave Wallace (Fulton) finished his final semester at Onondaga in fine fashion.

In April the Architectural Technology major was part of a team of students who went to Denver, Colorado and earned first place honors in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Challenge Home Student Design Competition.

Wallace was awarded second place in the Syracuse Chapter of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) Writing Scholarship Competition in May. He was competing against students from seven other schools for the presitigious Edward Goldberg Memorial Scholarship. Contestants had to design and create the specifications for an ice cream cone. “We picked an ice cream cone because specifications for it didn’t exist. People couldn’t just go online and find them as they could, for say a, window,” said CSI Chapter President Charlie Laun.

Wallace was awarded a plaque and a check for $1,500. He will be transferring to Boston Architectural College with a goal of becoming an architect focusing on green buildings.
