The North Central Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is celebrating another outstanding year serving new and existing small businesses. The organization received numerous prestigious accolades during a statewide conference and training session, including:

  • Most Clients Serviced in Fiscal Year 2024: Served more clients, 1,654, than any other Center in all of New York State.
  • Met All Goals in Fiscal year 2024
  • Team Player Award
  • North Central SBDC Staff Achieving Certifications from the New York SBDC: Certified Business Advisor Michele Baran, Certified Administrative Support Jamie Procak.
  • Creative Funding Award - Regional Director Bob Griffin, CEPA: Testimonial from award presentation ceremony: "Bob Griffin is a deserving recipient of the Creative Funding Award for his outstanding success in securing funding through Host and Partner Commitments from multiple regional organizations. Through strategic relationship-building with institutions like Jefferson and Onondaga Community Colleges, local governments, and economic development agencies, Bob has not only brought in vital financial support but has also expanded the SBDC’s reach across several counties. His efforts go beyond funding—he’s actively working to establish physical locations in underserved areas, increasing access to SBDC services. Bob’s leadership, innovation, and commitment to sustainable growth have had a transformational impact on his center and exemplify why he is a creative funder."
  • Game Changer - Certified Business Advisor Michele Baran: Testimonial from award presentation ceremony: "Michele Baran is a standout nominee for the Game Changer Award due to her transformative impact on underserved rural communities in Cayuga, Seneca, and Cortland Counties—all within just over a year of joining the team in January 2023. Despite being new to the SBDC and navigating complex systems and diverse regional challenges, Michele quickly established strong relationships with local leaders, economic development officials, and community stakeholders. Her strategic outreach efforts led to a near doubling of client engagement in traditionally underserved areas and positioned the SBDC as a trusted, go-to resource for technical assistance. Michele also introduced Fast Track training events in all three counties—an unprecedented achievement for the Center. Her tireless dedication, adaptability, and deep commitment to connecting rural populations with essential business support services have redefined the SBDC’s presence and effectiveness in these regions, making her truly deserving of the Game Changer Award."
