Cinema
The Department of English, Integrated Learning Studies and Communication Studies offers several courses devoted to the study of cinema including courses designated as Cinema (CIN) and courses designated as English (ENG). All these courses introduce and develop the ability to view film critically and analytically as a vibrant piece of human communication. This study will often include exploration of the aesthetics, formal dimensions, and history of the cinematic art form.
The English and Cinema courses of film study will not devote time to the practice of creating a film. If students are interested in learning filmmaking, they are encouraged to enroll in the courses devoted to film and media production offered in the Broadcast Media Communications program.
Cinema courses and English courses devoted to the study of film form the core of the Cinema minor. Students that develop a serious interest in the study of cinema are encouraged to explore the option of the Cinema minor offered at Onondaga Community College
