Principal Clarinet of The Syracuse Orchestra (formerly named Symphoria), Allan Kolsky held positions with the Louisiana Philharmonic and the Utah Symphony before joining the Syracuse Symphony as Principal Clarinet in 2002. He has appeared as soloist with both Symphoria and the Syracuse Symphony in clarinet concertos by Mozart, Nielsen, Copland, Finzi and Weber.
Mr. Kolsky is the Adjunct Lecturer in Clarinet at Onondaga Community College, where he also teaches classes in Woodwind Repertoire. A co-host and performer at the 2001 International ClarinetFest, Kolsky taught clarinet for several years at the University of New Orleans. Since 2006, he has also been an adjunct faculty member at Hamilton College, where he teaches clarinet and coaches woodwind chamber music.
Allan Kolsky holds music performance degrees from Temple and DePaul Universities, where he studied privately with Anthony Gigliotti (Principal Clarinet of the Philadelphia Orchestra) and Larry Combs (Principal Clarinet of the Chicago Symphony). He received a Tanglewood Fellowship in 1989, performed with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and was coached in Master Classes by Robert Marcellus, David Shifrin and Harold Wright.
Winner of the 2011 Civic Morning Musicals Award for Excellence in Music Performance, Mr. Kolsky has performed with the Cincinnati Symphony, the North Carolina Symphony, the Buffalo Philharmonic, the Chautauqua Symphony, the Skaneateles Festival, Glimmerglass Opera, Syracuse Friends of Chamber Music, and the Colorado Music Festival.
