Martha Grener is a freelance flutist and music educator. Noted for solo recitals and chamber music, she has performed for many local concert series including Civic Morning Musicals, Syracuse Friends of Chamber Music, Arts Across Campus at Onondaga Community College, Jackson Concert Series at Utica College, and more.

Ms. Grener performs regularly as an extra with Syracuse Orchestra, Clinton Symphony, Catskill Symphony and also serves as 2nd flute & piccolo with Fenimore Chamber Orchestra. She was principal flute with Syracuse's Chelsea Opera in 2023 and 2022.

An advocate of new music, Ms. Grener was a performer in the NE composers symposium as well as a solo performer for Society of Composers, Inc Regional II conference in 2022. In 2014 her flute/harp group Duo L'Adour won a Syracuse Area Music Award ("Sammy Award") for her album Dare to Dream: a series of reveries for flute & harp.

Equally passionate about teaching, Ms. Grener happily serves as Adjunct Music Professor at Onondaga Community College, Adjunct Flute Instructor at Le Moyne College and as a local private teacher.

She earned her MM at the Eastman School of Music, with advanced coursework at Northwestern University with undergraduate work at Ithaca College and Syracuse University. She won multiple concerto and other competitions most notably the National Federation of Music Clubs woodwind award. She was a flutist at the Music Academy of the West. She performed in masterclasses and studied with the world’s greatest flutists including Sir James Galway, Julius Baker, John Oberbrunner, Walfrid Kujala, and more.

Ms. Grener serves as a NYSSMA woodwind adjudicator for all state, regular woodwind, and major organizations. She had served in the capacity of band teacher and woodwind lesson teacher in the West Genesee Central School district for over two decades. She continues to serve as guest clinician for both flute and band across New York state.

Ms. Grener is grateful for her life both performing and helping others in music. "Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent. Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything."
