Kente Cloth Celebration
The Adanfo Cultural Ensemble from Ghana performed at the Kente Celebration in Storer Auditorium.

The achievements of graduating Black, African-American, and African Onondaga Community College students were recognized during the Kente Cloth Celebration, held April 26 in Storer Auditorium. Each student received a colorful Kente Cloth which will be worn at commencement.

Event speakers included:

  • OCC President Dr. Warren Hilton
  • Flagan Prince, OCC's Director of Early College Pathways and K-12 Partnerships
  • Professor Tara Ross, J.D. who discussed the history of the Kente Cloth
  • Graduating student Shayne Turo (General Studies)
  • Graduating student Londi Rowell (Human Services)

The Keynote Speaker was Bretram Lawson II, President and Chief Executive Officer of the YMCA of Central New York.

The Adanfo Cultural Ensemble performed dance ensembles during the event.
