Students celebrated their successful bridge building experience during Micron-sponsored Chip Camp. OCC class of 2024 member Alex Espitia-Casallas (wearing cap) worked with students during the exercise.

Drones, rocket building, rubber band racers, soldering... those are some of the STEM-related activities students were engaged in during the Micron-sponsored Chip Camp July 24, 25, and 26. More than 90 students entering 7th grade at 10 different Onondaga County schools participated. Onondaga Community College hosted activities for two days, and the Rosamond Gifford Zoo also welcomed students for a day. The hands-on activities related to semiconductor manufacturing and engineering encourage students to see and experience what engineers and scientists do.

OCC introduced a new Micron-related Electromechanical Technology degree one year ago, and 11 students enrolled in the program are engaged in paid internships at Micron facilities in Idaho and Virginia this summer. OCC is also constructing the Micron Cleanroom Simulation Lab on campus with support from  Onondaga County, New York State, and Micron Technology.
