If you are thinking about coming to Onondaga Community College this fall, you will have new degree programs, new microcredential programs, and two existing degree programs which will be available entirely online to consider. Here's what will be new and different this fall:

  • Supply Chain Management
    • This is a direct-to-career program that will prepare students for careers in distribution and warehouse management. As the region grows due in large part to Micron and related businesses, there will be an increasing need for a workforce ready to navigate the complexity of the supply chain.
  • Architectural Design Studies
    • Student will learn to utilize industry-standard software and develop creative solutions for problems. Focus of study includes construction management, design principles, and sustainable construction practices.
  • Construction Management
    • Learn how to lead construction projects! Construction managers will play a critical role in the region’s future as we see an increase in industrial development, including construction of the Micron facilities and adjacent projects.

We also have two new microcredentials which we will begin offering in the Fall 2023 semester. A microcredential can be completed in months rather than years, and is directly related to an in-demand career in our region. All credits earned through the microcredential can be applied to at least one degree at OCC such as Creative Writing or Liberal Arts: Humanities and Social Sciences should a student want to continue their education.

  • Digital Writing (9 credits)
    • Developed in partnership with a local marketing firm to help individuals develop the skills necessary to produce quality marketing content and learn about writing in a digital environment.
  • Creative and Professional Writing (9 credits)
    • Designed for individuals interested in honing their writing skills for the workplace and can help students in a variety of careers. Students will develop skills in workplace communication, creative content writing, professional and technical writing, and how to write for different audiences.

Two of our highly successful, existing programs will be available entirely online in the Fall 2023 semester:

  • Health Information Technology
    • Learn how to use current information systems to collect, analyze, disseminate, and maintain patient data. This is a rewarding career for someone who wants to be in a health-related field but not have direct patient care.
  • Creative Writing
    • This flexible degree is geared towards someone pursuing a writing-heavy career such as public relations specialist, copywriter, author, or even a teacher. Transfers seamlessly to SUNY Oswego, SUNY Potsdam, and Le Moyne College.

We’ve continued to create new programs in our growing School of Health based on workforce demands. These programs provide students with health-related career options which do not require direct patient care. Programs which are just one year old include:

  • Healthcare Administration
    • Students learn about the business, management, and legal side of the healthcare industry. Numerous SUNY schools offer bachelor’s degrees in Healthcare Administration, some of which are fully online.
  • Laboratory Science
    • Perfect for students interested in laboratory research which diagnoses and treats diseases. Transfers seamlessly into SUNY Upstate Medical University’s Medical Technology and Medical Biotechnology bachelor’s degree programs.

Prospective students can learn more about these new options and more at the Spring Open House & Accepted Students Day Saturday, April 29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
