Professor Buffy Quinn, Geospatial Science and Technology
Professor Buffy Quinn brought the Geospatial Science and Technology degree program to OCC. She's pictured in the program's headquarters on the 3rd floor of the Whitney Applied Technology Center.

Professor Buffy Quinn's passion for using drones to make maps brought a new degree program to OCC and recently landed her a voice in a national discussion about the use of drones in STEM education. Quinn recently participated in the National Center for Autonomous Technology's panel discussion on the topic. "We had great response with lots of questions from people all across the country. It was fun to discuss lessons learned and that we were doing innovative things to get students experience in this very high tech field and get them into really good jobs."

Quinn is leading students through the first semester of OCC's new Geospatial Science & Technology degree program. Students have learned how to analyze geographic data, use drones and other technology to survey land, and transfer these skills into a career. OCC's industry partners are helping educate students based on true industry standards, and offering internships which can lead to jobs. OCC has an agreement with SUNY Cortland which will allow students to seamlessly transfer there and pursue a degree in Geographic Information Systems.

In the latest edition of our podcast, "Higher Ed News You Can Use From Onondaga Community College, Quinn discusses her participation in the nationwide discussion about the use of drones in STEM education and updates us on how the first semester of the Geospatial Science and Technology degree program has gone.
