Residence Hall Director Keven Carlo gets drenched by two students during the "Splash for a Cause" event.

Onondaga Community College's Residence Hall Directors solved a problem by making themselves the target of a fundraiser.

The residence hall directors, or RHDs as they are commonly referred to, wanted to acquire a set of pots and pans for each residence hall which students could sign out. To raise the money, the RHDs created the "Splashing for a Cause" fundraiser. Students could pay $1 for the privilege of throwing a cup of water on their RHD, or $3 for dousing them with a bucket.

The event was such a success enough money was raised to buy a set of pots, utensils and baking sheets for each of the four residence halls. "My staff is really enthused, energetic, has lots of great ideas, and they just do it," said Interim Residence Hall Director Kimberly Fuqua.

Her RHDs are already working on their next fundraiser, planning a bottle and can drive for the last few weeks of the semester. Students will decide which non-profit agency to donate the proceeds to.
