Shaniece McClaney ‘09
  • Major at OCC: Electronic Media Communications
  • High School: John Marshall HS Rochester, NY
When Shaniece McClaney enrolled in OCC’s Electronic Media Communications (EMC) major she dreamed of a career in broadcasting. Her career path took her in a different direction, but skills learned in EMC played a critical role in her development. “The program taught me how to think creatively, work under pressure and communicate clearly which are all tools I use today.”
After OCC, McClaney earned a Bachelor’s degree at the University of New Haven in Mass Communication and a Master’s in Strategic Leadership from Roberts Wesleyan College. Today, she is a Supply Chain Supervisor at General Motors Rochester Operation. She has been with the company for five years and is in charge of production scheduling, coaching and mentoring, performance appraisal, maintaining H&S standards and problem solving for continuous improvement. Recently, in light of her work, McClaney has earned recognition on the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle’s “Woman to Watch” list.
McClaney says the foundation for her success was built both at home and on the OCC campus. “My parents always encouraged me to go out and enjoy what life had to offer and by choosing OCC, I was not only able to receive a great educational foundation, but one that emphasized the importance of community as well, which is something I live by to this day.”
