This year a new generation of Lazers will be welcomed to our campus under some unusual circumstances on Monday. As the date looms closer, we wanted to pause and ask them why they started college during a global pandemic and why they are excited for the semester start. Here are the perspectives of 7 of them.  

Why Did you Decide to start College in the Middle of a Pandemic?  

"I decided to go to college during the global pandemic because despite everything that is happening in the world right now. I want to go on with my dream of becoming a kindergarten teacher. And I didn’t want to wait a year from now to start that dream of mine. I don’t know what I would be doing right now if I wasn’t going to college. I’m the type of person who is eager to learn, global pandemic or not! " - Morgan Westcott 

"So I can be on track to take over as a teacher at my old school" - Josh Clanton 

"I decided to start college in the middle of this pandemic because I didn’t want something so big change what I wanted to do in the next step of my life" - Gabby Magie 

"Because I have a plan for my future, and I don't want it to stop because of the pandemic." - Abdulkader Achiti Alkurdi 

"I decided to start college in the middle of a pandemic because, I wasn’t going to let anything hold me back from getting my degree." - Zahnyia Love 

"I decided to start college in the middle of a pandemic because no matter what I still wanted to get an education and continue on the path that i believe will benefit my future. I think that everyone can still get that opportunity as long as everyone is following the proper precautions that are necessary to be able to continue our learning experience." - Jadyn Wong

"I decided to start school during this rough time because I worked really hard to get my future set up and I’m not going to let COVID get in the way of me achieving my goals." - Brendan McCrosson  

What are you most looking forward to for the Fall?

"What I am most looking forward to this fall is meeting all my teachers and meeting students who have the same interest as me in childcare! I will also be on campus on Mondays which is really exciting that I get to be able to be on campus, even if it is just for one day." - Morgan Wescott 

"Having an in-person class will be refreshing." - Josh Clanton 

 "I want to make every effort to be the best, and I want to encourage my friends and provide them with assistance." - Abdulkader Achiti Alkurdi 

"I’m mostly looking forward into starting my classes honestly and meeting new people with my major!" - Zahnyia Love 

"When I think about this upcoming fall semester I am looking forward to getting to go to school for a specific major that I love, along with meeting new people who also have the same interests as me. " - Jadyn Wong

"What I’m looking forward to this fall is to further my education in my major of criminal justice and to push myself." - Gabby Magie 

"Since I will be doing online classes for Onondaga in the fall I look forward to staying on top of my work building good relationships with my teachers & just overall get athletically and academically prepared to return to a normal school environment this spring." - Brendan McCrosson
