How to make a planned gift

You can make a planned gift to OCC in a number of different ways:

  • A bequest in your will or living trust
  • Naming the OCC Foundation as a beneficiary of a specific portion of percentage of your IRA or qualified pension plans
  • An outright gift or gifts of cash, marketable securities or other property acceptable to the OCC Foundation to establish a charitable trust or charitable gift annuity
  • Naming the OCC Foundation as a beneficiary from your life insurance policy or other means acceptable to the OCC Foundation and in keeping with the IRS Code and relevant state and federal law

Planned Giving Benefits

In addition to supporting the mission of OCC, a planned gift can provide to you substantial tax advantages, especially on gifts of stocks and real estate. The total income, estate, and capital gains tax savings and the probate expense savings can come close to the amount transferred. The benefits include:

  • Income Tax Deductions
  • Reduced Capital Gains Taxes
  • Reduced Estate Tax
  • Income for Life

Simply by taking advantage of incentives the IRS provides, you and your advisor can craft a gift that fits your needs, as well as the needs of OCC. Even with the increased standard deduction in the tax law that became effective January 1, 2018, an immediate income tax charitable deduction resulting from a planned gift may lead to itemizing deductions and greater tax savings. A planned gift makes it possible for you, your loved ones, and OCC to all benefit.
