More than a year after his untimely passing, the spirit of former OCC Athletic Director Rob Edson is alive in the student-athletes he served. Edson passed away unexpectedly September 14, 2013 at the age of 45.
During the 2013 season members of the women’s soccer team participated in several fundraisers benefiting the Robert H. Edson Endowment for Leadership and Excellence at Onondaga Community College. They sold rubber bracelets, held bake sales, and donated the proceeds from one home game to the endowment.
Similar events will be taking place this season, keeping the memory of Edson and what he stood for alive within the campus community. “We met with Rob at the beginning of last season,” said Bridget Field, a sophomore Business Administration major from Skaneateles. "He was very focused on academics. He told us we were always welcome to drop by his office if we needed anything. He was a wonderful man.”
Anthony Richmond is in his sixth season as head coach of the women’s soccer team. “Rob Edson meant so much to all of us. It’s important we remember what he stood for and keep doing things in his memory. It’s not just about winning games. It’s about being good citizens and good students.”
