A national organization has recognized the outstanding job Onondaga Community College's Office of Veterans and Military Services does supporting Student Veterans. GI Jobs Magazine has named OCC both Military Friendly and Military Spouse Friendly. "We are excited to again be named a Military Friendly school," said Steve White, Assistant Director of Veterans Affairs. "OCC is a great place for Student Veterans or military-affiliated students to pursue their educational goals."
Jonathan Yard is President of OCC's Veterans and Military Services Club. He served 6 years in the U.S. Navy before enrolling at OCC. "For our office to be recognized for its dedication to Veterans' success and the help it provides those in need is the fuel we need to keep doing all the great things we do best."
The Office of Veterans and Military Services is a direct link between Student Veterans and the regional VA Office, assisting with VA benefit certification and payment inquiries. OCC's office also assists Student Veterans with traditional college processes such as academic planning. OCC's degree and certificate programs are approved for VA education benefits in accordance with the student's chapter eligibility.
"Having this office as a place to go to seek assistance or to simply hang out is an invaluable resource for Veterans on campus," said Yard. "Within the office, we have subject matter experts on accessing and utilizing Veterans' educational benefits, programs regarding healthcare, and housing assistance."
The Office of Veterans and Military Services is located on the second floor of Coulter Hall at the top of the main stairway in room C217.
